Anyway, when strings and horns strike, I presume it is not so important which words goes under, but anyway, it is quite enjoyable to use something like: “Don’t touch my pancakes or I’ll cut your head off” instead of some Latin chants. With word-builder it is so easy to solve many problems and to find, actually build your specific articulation that will fit your composition. So, more or less, for the main theme you can use any sentence, just putting here and there some specific word that goes with a story if suddenly the choir starts singing alone in your composition. Hollywood Choir can recognize long or short notes so you can freely build your phrases without worrying too much about the note length. If you don’t use any really unusual words or some specific short word that is hard to sing even for real choir, playing phrases or even chords is an ultra easy task.

This is just one thing, while even more important is that using word-builder can make our composing life quite a bit easier. As we already said, not so different than is the case with a real choir. Maybe not totally phonetically the same as a real choir can do, but after all, the human brain can connect the context, so using some significant words could reveal the big picture. If you use some specific phrase or even if you build one by writing it in English, or through the Phonetic editor, or the Votox editor (being even more phonetic than Phonetic), it will give you, at least in most cases, quite impressive results. So, does it means that this text editor is almost useless? Nope, quite the opposite.

So, as far as I remember, in the whole movie industry only Woody Allen has tried to tell exact things through the choir, and even in that case, the choir didn’t sing the lines telling the story in a narrative way. There is a chance to understand something when a solo artist performs the line, but those chances drop to almost zero when the choir starts singing. Why the hell do you think that you get Libretto along with an opera? Because it would be almost impossible to follow the story just by listening. If you really want to nail some sentence, it could take some time and effort, but after all, this is not the intention of any library or even a real choir. Again, this is impressive, but still not the main reason that puts this library in front of many others.

Hollywood Choirs also comes with a nice quantity of different phrases in English, German, Italian, Spanish and Latin languages – of course, you can also try it with your own words, as word-builder can already recognize more than 100,000 words. Even better, as I didn’t need to worry about differences between staccato and legato articulations as vowels sounded perfect no matter if I played short or long notes. At first I thought it’s a real pity it doesn’t have any simple sequencer for vowels that I’ve used a lot in some other libraries, but then I figured that I can simply write oo uu aa ee and other vowels in the text editor and suddenly I got my vowel sequencer.

I found that Hollywood Choirs, with its series of consonants, vowels and multi selections, and a word-builder – actually a text editor – covers all my needs perfectly. That was the reason why I still had so many libraries (along with the fact they have slightly different sounds). The main reason was that most of them were good in some specific area, one-trick ponies, two-trick ponies or even a-few-trick ponies, and they covered an array of techniques, but not all. Many of them were quite expensive and from well-known developers, sounding big and impressive. The truth is that at least half of my other choir libraries also sounded really good. The main reason for that was not just because Hollywood Choirs sounds really good.

So, those 60 GB for Hollywood Choirs ended up as an extra 110 GB free space on my disk, having installed this one and uninstalled most others. I uninstalled most other choir libraries. Two weeks later, after trying many different things, I decided to free up some disk space.

I spent some quality time downloading the whole thing and spent another two days going through the manuals exploring all the options, as I’ve never used their Play instrument before. I glanced through the specifications and decided to try this one anyway, as having read the description figured this one could prove to be different to all the other choir libraries that I’ve collected till now. Not that I wasn’t keen to do that, but during the years I’ve collected a very impressive number of choirs for my library arsenal and I’m always a bit tight on a disk space. In preparing for this article, I asked for some other, older EastWest products but they suggested I try their newest: Hollywood Choirs. Hollywood Choir supplies a language and with a language we can recreate all words, vowels, syllables and anything else you need – one choir does it all.
